BIOMETRIC PASSPORTS

The Following requirements are to be provided by Passport applicants:

  1. A fully completed form with signature and thump print.

  2. The current Passport or Birth Certificate.
  3. Photocopy of the current Passport page containing personal data.
  4. A Ghanaian applicant who has no proof of Ghana Passport with which he/she entered the country must support the Application with an affidavit from the High Court Sworn on his/her behalf in Ghana by a close relative.
  5. The affidavit should indicate if applicant has acquired a Passport before or not/if missing, he or she must indicate the Passport number. The affidavit must be supported by:
            a) An attestation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Accra.
            b) A Ghana Police report for the missing Passport.
            c) A Temporary stay permit (Duldung).
    The Ghana affidavit will not be necessary if a German police report is obtained.
  6. A change of name or place/Date of Birth should be supported with a Ghana Government Gazette to that effect.
  7. A photocopy of the receipt of the processing fee.
  8. Any supporting documents in respect of profession, or the Passport of a Ghanaian parent in support of children’s applications, must be in the original form.
  9. A self-addressed envelope affixed with not less than EUR 4.10 worth of postage stamps. The envelope must bear the name of the applicant even if he/she is not the principal recipient.
  10. In most cases, an interview would be necessary.
  11. Payment could be made in cash only at the Embassy.

    Attestation

    Ghanaian documents

    Attestations are made to Ghanaian documents such as affidavits for change of name or marital status, birth certificates, marriage certificates etc. All sworn affidavits from a high court in Ghana must bear an authentication letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra before submission to the Embassy for the required attestation.

    Divorce Decrees issued in the German language or any other language, other than English, must be translated into English before submitting to the Embassy for attestation.

    In all cases photocopies of the applicant`s Ghanaian passport (pages of personal particulars, photo and signature) must be attached to the request.

          

    Travel Certificates

    1. Ghanaian Travel Certificates are issued to only persons who are not in possession of a Ghana Passport and require travelling to Ghana under emergency situation.
    2. They are available for single journey to Ghana only and cannot be used for return journey to Germany.
    3. They are valid for one (1) month. In addition to completing an application for Travel Certificate Form, applicants will be required to produce evidence of Ghanaian nationality such as photocopy of a previous passport, original Birth/ Baptismal certificate, any Ghanaian Identity card, together with two (2) passport-sized pictures and the appropriate fee.
    4. Applicants for Travel Certificates will be requested to report for an interview.

    Residence and work Permits

    Residence and work permits are issued to expatriates employed by companies and churches against immigration quotas.

    Dependants of expatriate employees are also granted residence permits but not work permits.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Identity Card applicants

    We wish to inform of the under-mentioned requirements for the benefit of Consular Identity Card applicants:

    a)A fully completed form with signature;

    b)A copy of current passport or birth certificate;

    c)A self addressed envelope affixed with not less than EUR 3.55 worth of postage stamps.The envelop must bear the name of the applicant even if he/she is not the principal recipient. 

    d)One biometric passport photograph with white background. Applicants appearing in person need not bring along biometric photograph.

    Renunciation of Ghanaian Citizenship

    Ghanaian nationality

    An application to renounce one's Ghanaian nationality should be addressed in the form of a letter to the Minister of Interior through this Embassy.

    Requirements for renunciation of Ghanaian citizenship

    By the constitution of Ghana, applicants are by law to attain the age of 18 years and above before renouncing their Ghanaian nationality!

    1. Completed renunciation application form;
    2. Original German assurance  letter;
    3. Certified English translation of the German assurance letter;
    4. Application letter addressed to the interior minister in Ghana stating reasons why applicant wants to renounce his/her citizenship;
    5. Applicant's curriculum vitae (CV) which must include the names and addresses of parents or any close relations living in Ghana;
    6. Photocopy of relevant  pages of applicant's Ghanaian passport;
    7. Photocopy of receipt (that was issued to applicant when he/she bought renunciation application form);
    8. One passport sized photograph;

    It must be pointed out that the renunciation becomes legal only after Ghana’s Minister of Interior has issued a Certificate. 

    Please note that any cancellation and erasure on the Renunciation Form renders it null and void and will not be forwarded to the appropriate authorities in Accra. All applicants must endeavour to avoid mistakes.

     

    The Process of Renunciation

    1.Applicants applying to renounce their Ghanaian citizenship must submit a duly completed Declaration of Renunciation of Citizenship of Ghana form.

    2.The form cost EUR 200,00 and the payment could be made in cash only at the Embassy.

    4.Once the money has been transferred into the Embassy's account, the applicant should write a short letter requesting the renunciation form/certificate, adding a copy of the bank payment slip and a self-addressed envelope affixed with not less than EUR 3.55 of postage stamps.

    6.After vetting the submitted documents which was sent to the Embassy, the Mission in Berlin will then forwarded the documents to the Minister of Interior in Accra for consideration. Upon approval, the Minister of Interior would issue a Renunciation Certificate and forward it to this Embassy for onward delivery to the Applicant.

    7.It may be pointed out that the renunciation becomes legal only after the renunciation certificate has been issued.

    8.Please note that a response from the Ministry of Interior in Ghana is usually received 6 months after submission of the application. Applicants are therefore advised to apply for renunciation of Ghanaian nationality at an early stage of their procedure for acquiring the German nationality.

    9.Applicants shall receive an acknowledgment of the application.

    INFORMATION

    Travel Documents and Visas

    All visitors to Ghana must possess a valid national passport.

    A national of any member state of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) visiting Ghana may, however, produce a travel certificate in lieu of a passport.

    ECOWAS members are: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.

    DUAL CITIZENSHIP REQUIREMENTS

    Ghanaians who have acquired German Citizenship through a German parent or having been born to a Ghanaian parent who hitherto had been granted German Resident permit for eight (8) years, are eligible to apply for Ghana Dual Citizenship and to hold the Ghana passport indefinitely, as stated in the German Nationality Act section4(3). Holding the Dual Citizenship Act of 2000 (Act 591) of the laws of Ghana.

    Guideline:

    Applicants are required to purchase a Dual Citizenship Application form at the cost of one hundred and twenty Euros (120 EUROS) at the Ghana Embassy in Berlin. The form has to be fully completed before submission to the Mission for onward transmission to the Ministry of Interior in Accra.

     

    Requirements:

    A completed application form is to be accompanied by:

    1. Six (6) passport size photographs of the applicant
    2. A photocopy of the applicant’s German Identity Card or German passport
    3. The Birth Certificate of the applicant
    4. Evidence of Ghanaian Nationality (parents’ Ghana passport / Identity Card)
    5. Contact phone numbers of the application and parents
    6. Names, addresses and phone numbers of two (2) Ghanaian relatives residing in Ghana
    7. Photocopy of the receipt issued when the application form was purchased
    8. Other Matters

      Prospective applicants who live outside Berlin should pay an amount of one hundred and twenty euros (120 Euros) into the Mission’s Account with a reference requesting for the Dual Citizenship Application form. The process of issuing the Dual Citizenship Certificate takes approximately six (6) months.

      On acquiring the dual citizenship, a holder will be entitled to apply for Ghanaian passport in addition to the German passport. it must be noted, however, that it is an offense for a Dual Citizenship Holder to use the two (2) passports interchangeably to deceive an immigration officer. the holder must travel on one 1) passport at a time
